Gold (XAUUSD) Price Forecast: Larak Strike Lifts Oil as Gold Extends Friday’s Selloff

Gold (XAUUSD) remains under pressure at the start of the week as renewed geopolitical tensions around Larak Island push oil prices higher, raising concerns about inflation and keeping markets focused on the Federal Reserve's interest-rate outlook.

The precious metal extended Friday's decline after Fed Chair Kevin Warsh delivered a hawkish message at Jackson Hole, emphasizing the importance of bringing underlying inflation back toward the Federal Reserve's 2% objective. The comments supported the US Dollar and Treasury yields, creating an additional headwind for gold.

Oil Prices Add to Inflation Concerns

The reported strike on Larak Island has increased uncertainty surrounding energy supplies and regional security. Higher crude prices can add to inflationary pressure, potentially making it more difficult for central banks to ease monetary policy.

For gold, this creates a complicated backdrop. While geopolitical uncertainty can traditionally support safe-haven demand, the resulting increase in oil prices and inflation expectations could strengthen the case for tighter monetary policy, supporting the Dollar and yields instead.

Gold Faces Technical Pressure

Gold's technical structure has weakened following the recent selloff. The metal has moved below important moving-average levels, leaving traders focused on whether buyers can establish support before the decline accelerates.

The $4,410 area remains an important support zone. Holding this level could provide a foundation for a recovery, while a sustained break below it would increase the risk of additional downside.

On the upside, gold needs to regain $4,600 before the broader recovery can regain momentum. Above that level, the $4,780 area remains a major recovery target.

Dollar and Treasury Yields in Focus

The US Dollar and Treasury yields remain crucial drivers for XAUUSD.

Warsh's emphasis on inflation has encouraged markets to reassess the possibility of tighter Federal Reserve policy. Higher interest-rate expectations can support Treasury yields and the Dollar, increasing pressure on gold because the metal does not generate interest income.

A decline in yields or a weaker Dollar could provide relief and allow gold to recover.

Key Levels to Watch

Traders should monitor the following levels closely:

- $4,410: Key support

- $4,600: First important recovery level

- $4,780: Major upside target

- Below $4,410: Risk of deeper correction

Gold Outlook

Gold enters the new week facing several competing forces. Geopolitical tensions could generate safe-haven demand, but higher oil prices, inflation concerns and a hawkish Federal Reserve outlook are supporting the Dollar and yields.

The $4,410 support zone is therefore critical. A successful defense could allow XAUUSD to stabilize and attempt a recovery toward $4,600 and eventually $4,780. A decisive break below support would instead strengthen the bearish outlook.

For now, traders are watching oil prices, US Treasury yields, the Dollar and Federal Reserve expectations for clues about gold's next major move.
