Euro Falls Against Japanese Yen Ahead of German Inflation Data

By ·

The Euro (EUR) is edging lower against the Japanese Yen (JPY), with EUR/JPY trading near 185.20, down around 0.1% during Monday's European session. The cross is facing pressure as the Japanese Yen outperforms major currencies amid growing expectations that the Bank of Japan (BoJ) could raise interest rates at its September policy meeting.

Yen Gains as BoJ Hike Bets Increase

The Japanese Yen has strengthened as traders reassess the outlook for BoJ monetary policy. Expectations of another rate increase have provided support for the currency, particularly as investors monitor Japanese inflation and economic activity for confirmation.

A more hawkish BoJ stance could further strengthen the Yen by reducing the interest-rate advantage of higher-yielding currencies.

German Inflation Data in Focus

The Euro's next major test comes from upcoming German inflation data, which could influence expectations for European Central Bank (ECB) monetary policy.

Stronger-than-expected inflation could reduce expectations for further ECB easing and provide some support to the Euro. Conversely, softer price pressures could reinforce expectations for a more accommodative ECB stance and leave EUR/JPY vulnerable to additional losses.

EUR/JPY Technical Outlook

EUR/JPY is trading around the 185.20 area after coming under pressure from renewed Yen strength.

The 185.00 level is an important psychological and technical area. Holding above this zone could allow buyers to stabilize the pair and attempt a recovery toward 186.00.

A sustained break below 185.00 could increase bearish pressure and expose lower support levels.

On the upside, a move back above 186.00 would improve the short-term outlook and could bring higher resistance levels into focus.

What Traders Should Watch

The main catalysts for EUR/JPY include:

- German inflation data

- BoJ September rate expectations

- ECB monetary-policy expectations

- Japanese inflation and economic indicators

- Eurozone economic data

- Global risk sentiment

A hawkish BoJ combined with weaker German inflation could create additional downside pressure for EUR/JPY. A stronger German inflation reading, meanwhile, could provide support for the Euro.

EUR/JPY Outlook

The cross remains sensitive to the changing interest-rate outlook on both sides. For now, 185.00 is the key level to watch as traders await German inflation data and further signals from the BoJ.

A defense of 185.00 could support a rebound, while a decisive break below it would strengthen the bearish setup and increase the risk of further downside.
